If you were like me and grew up in the good ol’ days of Nickelodeon (I’m talking ‘Hey Arnold!’, ‘The Wild Thornberrys’, and ‘Legends of the Hidden Temple’ here. 90’s kids, unite!), then you’ll definitely have some fond memories of ‘Rugrats’.
My favourite character (as was most people’s) was surely Chuckie, whose worrywart, awkward tendencies certainly spoke to my own at a young age. Lucky for me then, Nickelodeon intends to introduce the charms of Chuckie and the others – Tommy, Phil, Lil, Susie, Angelica, and Kimi – to a whole new generation of preteens.
Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures recently unveiled plans for a two-part relaunch of the classic cartoon. First, with a 26-episode revival of the animated series, and second, with a live-action film with CGI characters animated by Paramount Players.
The show’s original creators Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain will be returning to executive produce the new series. Production is reportedly already underway, although more information about the release date and casting has yet to be announced.
As for the movie, the tentative release date is currently set at 13 November 2020. The script will be written by David Goodman from ‘Family Guy’, which is an interesting choice. We certainly don’t know what to feel about it being a live-action movie, much less the CGI component, but we have our fingers crossed!
