Last Week In Movies: ‘Deadpool 2’ marketing wins again!

#1: Deadpool breaks out his moves with Celine Dion in the new music video for Deadpool 2

There are some things in life that are normal and predicable, and then there’s the Deadpool 2 marketing team. Following several tongue-in-cheek stunts over the past months, buzz around the movie hit a sky-rocketing high after the music video for ‘Ashes’, a track from the Deadpool 2 soundtrack performed by Celine Dion, was released on the singer’s Youtube channel.

The music video features a high heel clad Deadpool performing an interpretive dance to Dion’s radiant performance, and the later even have a chat about it after its over. But I won’t spoil it for you. You can watch it here:

#2: Deadpool 2 faces censorship and joke cuts leading up to its premiere on May 17, 2018

Deadpool, the merc with a mouth, the man who shakes hands with death; unfortunately, not exempt from censorship, parental advisory boards, and Hollywood politics. News from the past week reports that Ryan Reynolds was forced to cut out a Disney joke from the film. Although it will no longer see the light of day, many speculate that it was a commentary on the Disney-Fox merger.

Later in the week, in an amusing turn of events, the Deadpool 2 soundtrack also became the first ever score to earn the parental advisory sticker for explicit content. In this case, it wasn’t just the song titles (which include wonders like “Make The Whole World Our B****” and “Holy S*** Balls”), but also the tracks themselves, some of which blatantly include profanities sung in chorus. All I know is I’m definitely looking forward to hearing that.

#3: Black Panther releases featurette trailers and concept art leading up to its Blu-ray and DVD release

Black Panther will be coming to Blu-ray and DVD in the next two weeks. Leading up to it, Marvel Studios has released the full list of special features you can expect with your purchase. This includes a director’s intro, deleted scenes, gag reels, and exclusive for digital, Wakanda tourism ads! That’s something I didn’t know I needed until I found out about it.

You can watch the trailer to one of the featurettes, Female Warriors, below:

#4: Isabela Moner signs on to play Dora in the upcoming Dora the Explorer live action movie

We first heard about the Dora the Explorer live action adaptation being produced by Transformers director Michael Bay last year. Despite all my mixed feelings about that news, the movie seems to be going strong signing on Isabela Moner to play the teenage version of the titular character. The actress first appeared in Transformers: The Last Knight, and can next be seen in the Sicario sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

#5: Star Wars meets Arrested Development in this remake of the trailer for Episode IV: A New Hope

Whether you’re a fan of Arrested Development or Star Wars (or both!), there’s something to chuckle over in this spoof. The trailer features narration by Ron Howard, the director for Solo: A Star Wars Story, and it lands perfectly before the premiere of the movie later this month, as well as the remixed edition of Arrested Development Season 4 landing later this week. Sounds like a win-win to us!

#6: Netflix’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch adaptation releases its official title – “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”

The horror-centric adaptation of Sabrina the Teenage Witch finally has a name! Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, officially announced the name on Twitter earlier last week alongside our first look at Mad Men actress Kiernan Shipka in costume. The series title makes a lot of sense, seeing as the events in the show will likely be a direct adaptation of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic series.

The character Sabrina is also likely to make an appearance in the Archie-inspired series Riverdale before the premiere of her own series, so look out for that!
