On the 15th May 2017, Studio Gokumi who is also in charge of works like Seiren and Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn has recently opened a website as well as a Twitter account, to reveal an original anime project called Toji no Miko otherwise known as The Shrine Maiden Swordwielders. Not much has been announced regarding the format of the anime but on the website, several staff members have been announced: –

Director: Kakimoto Koudai (Cyborg 009 Call of Justice, unit director of Haikyuu!!, Psycho-Pass)

Series Composition: Takahashi Tatsuya (Eromanga-Sensei, The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls)

Character Design: Shizuma Yoshinori (Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho)

Studio: Studio Gokumi

Producer: Genco

As for what this series will be about, since ancient times, sword-wielding shrine maidens have been exorcising ‘Aratama’ which are strange existences threatening humanity. The young women wearing school uniforms and wielding a sword are called ‘Toji’ and they work for the government within the police form as an official unit known as the ‘Special religious service police squad’. Due to that, they have authorization from the government to wield swords and in exchange, they have to serve the country and protect the people.

The girls live ordinary school lives in either one of the five schools set up throughout the country by the government for them to attend while occasionally performing their duties and eliminating ‘Aratamas’. During the spring season, each school will send their best ‘Toji’ to compete in a tournament, while the representatives train vigorously in order to improve their skills.
