Malaysian Dark Comedy ‘Her Second Act’ Wins Worldwide Inflight Rights at MIPCOM Cannes

A Malaysian mother’s unlikely second chance is about to travel the world at 35,000 feet. First-time director Joey Lee Choi Kin’s FINAS-backed debut has secured worldwide inflight rights, bringing it to airline passengers across the globe ahead of its festival run and nationwide release in 2027.

A female-led dark comedy about family, identity and starting over, Her Second Act has signed an international deal with Silk Route Entertainment, sold by Autumn Sun Company Ltd. The agreement will bring the film to travellers across airlines and routes worldwide, offering audiences an honest, funny and quietly moving story about a woman reclaiming her own life.

“This is a film that will resonate with global audiences, because the struggle for identity and affirmation is real for everyone,” said Jovita Toh, CEO of Silk Route Entertainment. “More importantly, you can feel the authenticity in the storytelling, and you connect with every character. It’s an amazing effort from a first-time filmmaker, and we look forward to her next project!”

The deal is a first milestone for Joey Lee and for the film’s backers across Asia, including the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), and a strong sign of the international appetite for Malaysian, female-led storytelling. Under its earlier title, My Parents’ Midlife Crisis, it was selected for the FDCP Full Circle Lab and the Shanghai International Film Festival WIP programme.

“Her Second Act is the kind of story audiences everywhere connect with: warm, honest, and quietly uplifting. It’s about the courage to begin again, and we’re thrilled to be bringing it to buyers and audiences across Asia.” Elliot Tong, managing director of Autumn Sun.
