The One Piece anime series has aired its final episode of the year, and is now set to return in 2027 with Episode 1181, according to a statement made via the official One Piece X/Twitter account. No exact date has been announced for the series’ comeback.
The announcement follows the release of One Piece Episode 1180, which aired on Japanese TV on September 27. It also follows Toei Animation’s recent decision to air only 26 episodes of One Piece per year, a significant change from the anime’s long-running weekly schedule.
According to an earlier statement from the official Toei Animation X/Twitter account, the decision to limit One Piece to 26 episodes a year was made in order to “dive even deeper into the heart of the One Piece world” by incorporating more content, tempo, and pacing from the original manga, giving fans a more condensed viewing experience.
The One Piece franchise is adapted from a manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, which has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump for over 28 years. The manga, which is currently in its final arc, has surpassed 600 million copies in circulation worldwide, and has been adapted to an anime, a live-action series on Netflix, and even a Lego animated series.
