SEGA and developer GPTRACK50 have released a new video for their upcoming pop-punk action-RPG, Stupid Never Dies, featuring commentary from Director Eiichiro Sasaki. The trailer, titled Deep Bite #2: Game Cycle, offers a closer look at the gameplay players can expect when the game launches on October 21.
The Heart of the Game: Blazing Fast Growth
In Stupid Never Dies, players control Davy, a zombie underdog tasked with descending into the depths of the underworld to defeat the King of All Monsters (KOM) before the end of humankind. The game’s core loop revolves around preparing for battle and then diving into KOM’s realm as quickly as possible.
Davy’s home base is a shopping mall, where he can visit companions to upgrade his abilities. At Ink on the Brain, Ascelino can modify Davy’s head, arms, and legs through a system called Body Hack, using Over Technology collected during runs. At Bessie Burger, Bessie allows players to trade monster parts for powerful Zombie Skills that later appear as level-up choices. To move between stores, Davy rides a modified robot vacuum—because time is short, and zombies aren’t known for speed.
Each dive into KOM’s realm starts Davy at level 1. However, through a mechanic called Blazing Fast Growth, Davy levels up faster and faster with every enemy defeated over time. Eventually, even a single early enemy can grant a massive number of levels, rocketing Davy from 0 to 60 in an instant. This makes it possible to descend all the way to the bottom and take out KOM in a single run—delivering what the team describes as the satisfaction of gaining the greatest power in the shortest amount of time.
Demo Update Now Available
Since the launch of the Stupid Never Dies: First Bite demo, the development team has been listening to player feedback. A new update is now available that improves enemy targeting during combat, and these improvements will also be included in the full game at launch.
The demo update includes:
- Adjusted attacks to make it easier to hit enemies, particularly those on the ground or in the air.
- A new “Combat Camera Assist” feature to help keep enemies in view during combat. This can be turned ON or OFF in the Options menu.
Players can try Stupid Never Dies: First Bite now on Steam and PlayStation 5.
