“Kept you waiting, huh?”
If you’re like me—someone who spent the early 2000s obsessing over MGS2’s tanker mission while simultaneously grinding the early Tom Clancy titles—the latest Rainbow Six Siege announcement isn’t just a content drop; it’s a historic event. After decades of schoolyard debates about who would win in a fight, Solid Snake has officially joined Team Rainbow.
Launching with Operation Silent Hunt on March 3, 2026, this isn’t just a cosmetic skin. Ubisoft Montreal and Konami have collaborated to bring the legendary mercenary into the Siege roster as a fully-fledged, game-changing Operator.

For the first time in gaming history, Solid Snake and Sam Fisher (Zero) are in the same game, on the same side. Seeing the Year 11 trailer where these two icons shake hands sent a chill down my spine. Ubisoft Creative Director Josh Mills called it a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” and as a fan, it feels like the ultimate nerd dream realized.
Complete with voice-over from the legendary David Hayter, Snake brings a “stealth fantasy” to the competitive arena that still feels remarkably authentic to Metal Gear.
How Snake Plays: Stealth, Intel, and OSP
1. The Soliton Radar MKIII (Unique Gadget)
Forget drone-holing for a second. Snake’s Soliton Radar maps the immediate area, highlighting Defender activity, cameras, and vision cones. It uses a color-coded threat system:
- Green: Clear
- Yellow: Active Camera
- Red: Enemy Presence
- Note: To keep it balanced, activating the radar alerts nearby opponents, forcing you to use it with the same caution you would in Shadow Moses.

2. On-Site Procurement (OSP)
In a brilliant nod to MGS lore, Snake features an On-Site Procurement mechanic. He spawns with minimal utility but can loot gadgets from eliminated operators. The longer the round goes and the more bodies drop, the more versatile Snake becomes.+1

3. The Loadout: Close Quarters Mastery
Snake is built for the “quiet” approach. His sidearm is a custom TACIT .45 suppressed pistol, which he wields in his iconic CQC stance, knife at the ready even while aiming. For primaries, players can choose between the PMR90A2 Marksman Rifle for long-distance picks or the F2 Assault Rifle for aggressive pushes.
Operation Silent Hunt
The collaboration extends across the entire season. We’re getting:
- Metal Gear Cosmetics: Including a Psycho Mantis skin for Smoke (which is terrifyingly perfect).
- Dual Front Event: A special mode featuring skins for Meryl Silverburgh, Cyborg Ninja, and Revolver Ocelot.
- Map Variants: Sections of the map pool are getting a makeover inspired by the Big Shell and other iconic MGS locales.

As a Siege player, I was initially worried about a “Fortnite-ification” of the game. But Snake fits the DNA of Rainbow Six perfectly. Whether you’re a Metal Gear veteran or a Siege die-hard, Year 11 is starting with the loudest “bang” possible, even if it is suppressed.
