This past November 2nd and 3rd, THE MAGIC RAIN had the exciting opportunity to be a part of EsportsLAH 2024! Organised in partnership with GamesMY Esports, EsportsLAH is the newest addition to SneakerLAH, Malaysia’s biggest and most renowned sneaker convention, with the goal of bringing the equally vibrant worlds of sneaker and eSports culture together under one roof.
Taking place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), the event played host to three exciting eSports tournaments: Mobile Legends LAH, Tekken LAH, and the EA FC Clubs Championship. Fans got to cheer for their favourite teams and players as they competed in thrilling matches for their chance to score a slice of the RM70,000 prize pool.
EsportsLAH also happened to coincide with the last two days of the Malaysian Mobile Legends S14 playoffs. To celebrate, EsportsLAH hosted a watch party where fans could hang out and spectate as Malaysia’s top 6 Mobile Legends teams competed for their chance to represent the nation at the upcoming M6 Championship, set to take place at Axiata Arena later this year.
Local gaming and lifestyle brand Todak also put on a show inspired by the upcoming M6 Championship, with the Todak Patriots accompanying Razak A’ai, Mortal Rhyme, AG Coco and DJ Uno on the EsportsLAH stage for their song “Ini Negaraku”, which was originally performed at the MPL MY arena in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
One of EsportsLAH’s most unique stage activities was the EsportsLAH Fashion Week, which saw models from Topboi Citizen showing off eSports-inspired outfits from brands such as Peak KL, Playaz, Susano, Kritikal Co., Homebois Worldwide, Todak, the Selangor Red Giants, Team Vamos and JPNiners. It was definitely a first for many to see professional models donning eSports jerseys alongside exclusive streetwear items.
The cosplay scene was represented by CosplayLAH, a contest where cosplayers from all over Malaysia competed for their chance to win the RM1,500 grand prize. The session was observed by judges Fumiko Kriss, Lizzy, and Kane, each seasoned cosplayers in their own right with years of experience under their belts.
After much deliberation, contestant Zainal Haziq emerged as the overall champion of CosplayLAH for his impressive recreation of Thamuz from Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, with second place going to Psycho as Rellana from Elden Ring, and third belonging to AJ Law Obdam as Hanabi from Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
In between stage events, visitors could also check out a variety of on-ground activities organised by the various sponsors and partners of EsportsLAH 2024. Among these were a collaboration between Mountain Dew and Honor of Kings, where participants were challenged to scream for a free bottle of Mountain Dew, and a typing challenge organised by The KapCo, which offered deals on their signature custom keycaps.
Rounding things out were cosplay booths where visitors could grab a picture or merchandise of their favourite cosplayers, as well as food and drink booths manned by Hadramot Express, Gloria Jean’s Coffees and 1901 Hotdog Malaysia, which ensured that participants could stay fueled and hydrated without having to leave the event hall.
Overall, we’re thrilled to have been a part of this groundbreaking new venture between Sneakerlah and GamesMY Esports. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for EsportsLAH!
