Made in Abyss will return with a new theatrical film this fall 2026, titled Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery. Animation for the film will be provided by Kinema Citrus, best known for their work on Rising of the Shield Hero and My Happy Marriage.
Several Made in Abyss anime staff members will return to work on the film, including director Masayuki Kojima, art director Osamu Masuyama, and composer Kevin Penkin. Voice actors Miyu Tomita, Mariya Ise, Shiori Izawa and Misaki Kuno will also reprise their roles as Riko, Reg, Nanachi, and Faputa, respectively.
The Made in Abyss series follows Riko, a young girl who ventures into a mysterious, unexplored pit known only as the Abyss, in search of her mother’s White Whistle. Along the way, she encounters a number of strange companions that join her on her journey – and equally strange and dangerous threats that stand in her way.
The series is based on a popular manga of the same name by Akihito Tsukushi, which currently stands at over 22 million copies sold. The manga was adapted into an anime series that began airing in 2017, as well as a theatrical film, Dawn of the Deep Soul, which released in 2020.
