The ice skating anime series Medalist is officially getting a feature-length film, scheduled for a theatrical release in 2027. The movie will follow the events of the anime’s upcoming second season, which will begin airing this January 24.
Medalist is based on a manga of the same name by Tsurumai Ikada, which follows Inori Yuitsuka, an 11-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a world-class figure skater. Despite being told that she is too old to begin training, she teams up with Tsukasa Akeuraji, a former ice dancer, who agrees to coach her towards becoming an Olympic medalist.
The upcoming second season of the anime will follow the Chubu Block Tournament, where figure skaters from across the country are vying for a spot in the All-Japan Novice A Championships. Inori will need to compete against her fellow Novice A rivals for a chance in the prestigious event.
