Team Malaysia made an impressive mark at the recent 2025 Thailand SEA Games, clinching the top spot in the competition’s first-ever Magic Chess: Go Go (MCGG) e-sports exhibition event.
Muhamad Arif Bin Baharun and Fazley Chong accumulated a commanding total of 59 points after five intense rounds of strategic gameplay, defeating the Philippines, who took the second spot with 50 points. Indonesia followed closely in third with 41 points, while host nation Thailand secured 35 points.
While MCGG made its debut this year as an exhibition event and was not part of the official medal tally, the victory is a huge boost for Malaysia’s growing presence in mobile e-sports. Team Malaysia will officially compete in four e-sports titles at the event: Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Garena Free Fire, and EA Sports FC Online.

Muhamad Arif Bin Baharun shared to Moonton: “I was excited to be part of the MCGG tournament at the 33rd SEA Games, as it is the dream of every MCGG player. We have been playing this game and training hard to be part of it. This shows that everyone has a chance, and I hope that our participation motivates everyone who watched us.”
“This is not just a tournament; this is where the journey starts.” added Fazley Chong. “With this victory, we hope that it helps enhance the growth of the community further, and hopefully, there will be more MCGG tournaments for Malaysia,”
