ACG culture has been fast expanding over the past few years, and as long-time fans of the culture, we were honored to be given the opportunity to see LaLaport BBCC officially unveil ACG BASE, a one-of-a-kind destination dedicated to anime, comics, and games (ACG) and urban pop culture.
ACG BASE aims to bring everything an ACG fan would desire all in one location. Most of the shops are located at Level 2 of LaLaport BBCC, many of which are the first of its kind in Malaysia. It features over 20 stores offering various services and products, such as themed cafés, merchandise shops, and even rows and rows of gachapon or claw machines.
A major highlight is none other than Animate, Japan’s leading anime retailer, which now has a permanent outlet in Malaysia following its very successful pop-up at LaLaport BBCC. The former Animate pop-up store has also been transformed into an exclusive ‘Only Shop’, offering limited-edition merchandise dedicated to specific anime or manga titles.
In addition, the Animate café located on the LG1 floor regularly refreshes its concept with different anime and game collaborations, bringing fans new and exciting experiences with each rotation. The café is currently hosting a Path to Nowhere theme from now until December 6.
The ACG BASE lineup also includes an exclusive selection of stores, such as Bad Egg Club, Dimension Poptown, Doko Koko zones (Café, Goods, Pick Up, Space), K+ by Kadokawa Gempak Starz, KOBO 7, Mori Mory, Nullset Goods, NOT ONLY TOY, ORB Café, Photoism PLAY, Q Pocket, The Pink Room, Vibe Max, and Xumi Goods. The hub is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2025, with anchor tenants debuting in Malaysia from mid-October onwards.
Adding to the excitement, KLP48 will soon take the stage at their very own KLP48 Theatre, the group’s official home base in Malaysia. A sister ensemble to Japan’s iconic AKB48, the KLP48 Theatre will offer daily live performances, giving fans the chance to cheer, support, and connect with their favourite members beyond concerts and festivals.
Launch Promotions
To celebrate the opening of ACG BASE, LaLaport BBCC is introducing a series of exclusive promotions. From 14 to 30 November 2025, shoppers can look forward to a series of delightful rewards at ACG BASE:
- Spend RM300 in a single receipt to receive a RM20 cash voucher
- Spend RM100 in two receipts on the same day to enjoy a complimentary box of chocolates or cookies from Beryl’s
To add to the excitement, shoppers can also collect a Sticker Rally card at ACG BASE from participating tenants, which can be completed to redeem another RM20 cash voucher.
With ACG BASE, LaLaport BBCC continues to transform its offerings by introducing a dedicated pop- culture precinct, complementing Mitsui Outlet Park BBCC, Malaysia’s first city outlet, along with the debut of exclusive Japanese brands and the Molly Fantasy family entertainment centre.
This ACG BASE sounds like LaLaport finally found its inner otaku! Bringing all this ACG goodness under one roof is like finally finding that hidden level in a game you love. Animate getting a permanent home here is huge news, and the exclusive Only Shop sounds perfect for those desperate collectors. The KLP48 Theatre addition is a great bonus, like getting a surprise boss fight in the middle of exploring!
