Earlier today, Capcom released new footage for Onimusha: Way of the Sword during their online program for Tokyo Game Show. The game is the latest entry in the Onimusha series, scheduled for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The new trailer introduces protagonist Miyamoto Musashi, who acquires the power of the Oni through a mysterious gauntlet, which helps him combat the invading Genma in early Edo-period Kyoto. However, this troubles Musashi, as to him the way of the sword is traversed on one’s own strength alone. His journey to rid himself of the gauntlet will take him on a bloody and meandering path.
Alongside Musashi, players will encounter new characters such as the Oni Lady, swordsman Ono no Takamura, and the dancer Izumo no Okuni, as well as new enemy types like Togemaru. Players will also traverse through a wide variety of distinctive stages, from Kyoto landmarks brought to life with striking detail, to fantastical, otherworldly locations unique to the series.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword will also offer a deep sword-fighting system that combines traditional techniques with supernatural Oni abilities. Players can absorb enemy souls to power up, use parry and deflect moves, and perform the series’ signature Issen counterattacks.
Capcom promises an intense and strategic swordplay experience, expanding on the series’ core mechanics. More information will be available ahead of the 2026 launch.
