Kocha Agasawa’s manga series You And I Are Polar Opposites is getting an anime adaptation, slated for a January 2026 release. A new trailer for the anime was released during the recent Anime Expo in Los Angeles, which officially confirms the series’ main cast.
You And I Are Polar Opposites is a rom-com about Suzuki, an energetic girl who can’t help but follow the crowd, and Tani, a quiet boy who can easily speak his mind. The original manga by Kocha Agasawa was serialized on Jump+ until 2024, where it sold over 1.45 million copies across both digital and physical formats.
The anime adaptation will star Sayami Suzuhiro (Nijika from Bocchi the Rock!) as Suzuki, opposite Shogo Sakata (Aki from Chainsaw Man) as Tani, with music from Japanese DJ tofubeats. Medialink Group will distribute the anime in Greater China, South East Asia and South Asia.
Sayami Suzuhiro shared: “I’m a huge fan of the original manga, so when I got the role, I was over the moon. How important it is to realize how you truly feel, and how difficult it is to understand it, as well as what it means to truly face the other person…I know you can find many things that will serve us in our daily lives in this show! I will face Tani-kun, who is the polar opposite of Suzuki, sincerely and play Suzuki with care. Thank you!”
Her co-star Shogo Sakata also gave a few words: “I’ve been reading You And I Are Polar Opposites since it started its serialization on Jump+. As a fan, I thought this was such a wonderful series with its pop taste and fresh, youthful dialogues of the teens while striking great balance of incorporating universal struggles that anyone can experience. (…) I think Tani-kun is the type of person who is not very good at the subtleties of human emotions and completes the world on his own. I hope I can express how he changes through meeting Suzuki-san. Thank you for your support.”
tofubeats, a Japanese music producer and DJ best known for his song Suisei (feat. Onomatope Daijin), will serve as the series’ composer. He shared: “I am ecstatic that I got to compose the music for You And I Are Polar Opposites. I’ve read the series before the offer came, so imagine my surprise when they offered me this job! I created the soundtrack, hoping that the music will root for and cheer up the happy, lively characters in the show as well as the teenagers who live in the 2020s. I had such a great time composing the music, so I hope you enjoy the music of this series too.”
