Hololive fans were already prepared for the worst as Hololive JP’s 2nd Generation VTuber, Murasaki Shion, posted to her X account that she had an important announcement to make. Many fans noted that the suddenness and vagueness of the post seemed to mirror the graduation announcements of other Hololive talents who have left the company within the past year.
Other notable affiliated talents from Hololive, such as Shirakami Fubuki had also delayed their stream schedules to accommodate this announcement, further adding to the seriousness of this announcement.
Fans’ fears were confirmed as Murasaki Shion, in her 8-minute-long announcement stream, announced that she would be graduating from Hololive on 26 April 2025, citing a differing opinion of the company’s direction with management.
She added that her ambitions and goals have changed since first joining Hololive Production six and a half years ago, which coupled with concerns over her physical and mental health, ultimately led to her decision to leave the company. She further noted that she felt conflicted over the timing of this announcement, given that it was two days before the company’s annual event Hololive SUPER EXPO 2025 and Hololive 6th Fes. Color Rise Harmony.
However, she thought her fans should know this information before they watch her last appearance in a Hololive Fes. She also urged everyone to not believe in rumors and gossip relating to her departure and to only believe information from official sources. Finally, she thanked her fans for their support throughout the years and added that she wants to create more lasting memories until her graduation.
Following the announcement stream, Hololive Production officially announced the graduation of Murasaki Shion from the group on the company’s official social media accounts. Hololive CEO Motoaki Tanigo, more commonly known as YAGOO, also posted a statement on his personal X account acknowledging the concerns raised by fans regarding the increasing number of talent departures.
This comes as several popular talents, such as Minato Aqua, Ceres Fauna, and Sakamata Chloe have departed from the company over the past year. YAGOO also reassured fans that they are working to improve the situation and have been actively engaging in discussions with the talents to further align their needs and ambitions.
Murasaki Shion is a Japanese VTuber from the 2nd Generation of Hololive Production’s JP Branch. She is known as a smug and cheeky brat, often speaking bluntly to both her peers and her fans.
Whilst she did not have a huge surge in popularity unlike some of her peers, she has been steadily amassing a dedicated group of fans over her years streaming as a VTuber, even surpassing 1.3 million subscribers on her YouTube Channel recently. It is also noted she had just returned from an 8-month-long hiatus in August 2024, shortly after her close friend and Hololive genmate Minato Aqua announced her graduation.
