The first season of Freiren: Beyond Journey’s End premiered in September 2023 and followed the story of Freiren, an elven mage and her fellow adventurers after they defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land.
Decades after their victory, the funeral of one of her friends confronts Freiren with her own near-immortality. The mage sets out to fulfill the last wishes of her comrades and finds herself at the beginning of a new adventure.
The anime is based on a manga of the same name written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. By June 2024, the manga had over 22 million copies in circulation and won the 14th Manga Taisho, the 25th annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize’s New Creator Prize, the 69th Shogakukan Manga Award, and the 48th Kodansha Manga Award.
