Shueisha, publishers of Weekly Shonen Jump, had plenty of announcements in store during their Jump Press livestream on Monday. Among the surprising news was the return of the Hunter X Hunter manga resuming in Weekly Shonen Jump on October 7th, 2024.
Written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, Hunter X Hunter follows a young boy named Gon Freecss who discovers that his father, who left him at a young age, is actually a world renowned Hunter. He then departs on a journey to become a Hunter and eventually find his father. Along the way, he meets various other Hunters and encounters the paranormal.
Hunter X Hunter was first serialised in Weekly Shonen Jump since March 1998, although the manga has frequently gone on extended hiatuses since 2006. As of November 2022, the manga has a total of 37 volumes with the last published chapter being Chapter 400.
The manga most recently went on hiatus in January 2023, citing health issues for the author. At the time, Shueisha also confirmed that the manga will not be following a weekly serialised format going forward.
For now, physical collectors can look forward to Hunter X Hunter’s 38th volume which will be shipped on September 4th, 2024.
