The Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Orchestra & Choir (SKOC) is partnering with musicians from the Hong Kong Wind Band Society for an international wind band exchange, featuring music from Japanese anime as well as from pop idol group AKB48.
TIUP! is a mini-festival to celebrate and promote wind band culture across the region, serving as a platform to encourage music education in winds, brass and percussion instruments. The mini festival is held over a weekend with two performances, workshops, as well as a conductor debut of a rising Hong Kong clarinetist.
This exchange will see 40 members from the winds arm of SKOC, Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Symphonic Winds (SKSW) play and learn alongside 20 over winds, brass and percussion musicians from Hong Kong. The exchange will allow wind band enthusiasts and professionals from both regions to share knowledge, skills and insights into strengthening the wind band culture across Asia.
In conjunction with this exchange, SKOC will also be hosting a series of instrument focused workshops open to the public, led by music educators and professional musicians from both Malaysia and Hong Kong.
This programme aims to improve the standards of music performance for Malaysia’s community wind band musicians, as well as establish a strong working relationship between community bands in Hong Kong and Malaysia.
A community led not-for-profit orchestra focused on the learning and development of musicians, SKOC serves as a platform for musicians of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to develop their skills, broaden their knowledge of musical styles and share the passion for making music.
