Malaysian Artist Karmen Loh Creates Key Art For Pokémon Championships 2023-24

The Pokémon Championships 2023-24 has revealed its key art designed by Malaysian artist Karmen Loh. The key art will be used for the Pokémon Championships events in Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

The Championships is a major official event that will crown the Champions for the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Video Games and the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The winners in each category will receive glorious prizes including trophies and invites to the Pokémon World Championships.

The official artwork includes headliners from the Pokémon Video Game and TCG — Pikachu, Ogerpon, Roaring Moon and Iron Valiant accompanied by two human characters. The girl is holding a Nintendo Switch and the boy is holding Pokémon Cards, representing the dream of all Pokémon Championships players: to become their region’s Champion!

“It’s my huge pleasure to work on this key art since my whole family are Pokémon fans! As an anime and a Japanese culture fan myself, working on Pokémon is really fun and exciting. This is also different from what I usually do, therefore it’s refreshing, and I appreciate the opportunity. Pokémon are created with much love, I hope everyone will like this key art!” shares artist Karmen Loh.

As an artist, Karmen Loh’s style is often been described as semi-realistic with a touch of fantasy. She used to be a character concept artist in the game industry and worked on game titles such as “Street Fighter V”. After switching into freelance, she created key visual illustrations for Costa China, as well as book cover illustrations for HarperCollins, Hachette Books, Penguin Random House and more.

The Pokémon Championships 2023-24 Malaysia will be happening on 29-30 June at The Starling Mall, although the venue is still subject to change. Participation is free, and the participation conditions for the Pokémon Video Game and TCG respectively can be found on the official website.
