One of the biggest anime events in the world, AnimeJapan took place this year at Tokyo Big Sight from March 23rd to 24th. The convention is the premier event for the Japanese animation industry, and the go-to place for fans to get the biggest anime announcements, as well as a preview of upcoming series and movies.
For a quick overview, we’ve compiled all the biggest anime announcements in one place, sorted by anime season and date. (Warning: This is going to be a long one!)
Spring 2024
Gods’ Games We Play (April 1)
Gods’ Games We Play released a new trailer which features its opening theme song, “NewGame” performed by AliA. The anime takes place in a world where supreme Gods with too much free time create the ultimate brain game for mortals. Of course, winning is virtually impossible for a mere mortal — until a former goddess and a genius human boy team up in a bid to win the game to end all games!
Spice and Wolf Reboot (April 1)
The Spice and Wolf reboot announced that it will be streaming in two-consecutive cours, alongside a brand new key visual. The series follows Lawrence, a traveling merchant, who meets a beautiful girl with the ears and tail of an animal. Now, the once-lonely merchant and the once-lovely wisewolf begin their journey north together.
The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 (April 5)
Originally confirmed last year, the third season of The Irregular at Magic High School revealed a new trailer and key visual. This season will cover the Double Seven arc, the first of three parts with Steeplechase and Ancient City Insurrection coming next.
Nijiyon Animation Season 2 (April 5)
Nijiyon Animation revealed a new trailer for its second season at AnimeJapan. A spin-off from the Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club series, Nijiyon Animation is a short anime based on the 4-koma series illustrating the daily lives of the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club’s members.
Sound! Euphonium Season 3 (April 7)
Kyoto Animation returns to animate the third season of Sound! Euphonium, which revealed its main trailer at AnimeJapan. The third season follows Kumiko who has lost all spark in her music after a terrible disappointment at the All-Kyoto Concert Band Competition. But her first year at Kitauji High School is a chance for a fresh start!
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (April 7)
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 receives a brand new trailer ahead of its 2nd cour this April. The series follows an outcast who gets reincarnated as Rudeus Greyrat in another world while retaining the knowledge of his past life. He vows to achieve success and enjoy fun-filled adventures in his new beginning.
The Duke of Death and His Maid Season 3 (April 7)
The Duke of Death and His Maid revealed a new trailer at AnimeJapan. The series follows a duke who was cursed by a witch so that any living thing he touched died. Unable to cope with such a cursed child, his family sent him away to live in an old mansion with only a butler and a seductive maid named Alice for company.
Blue Archive (April 7)
Blue Archive also revealed a new trailer ahead of its April 7th premiere. Its story takes place in Kivotos, an academy city that was established by the union of thousands of academies. The anime is based on the South Korean role-playing game developed by Nexon Games
Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again (April 7)
Ahead of its release on April 7th, Kadokawa streamed a credit-less opening animation sequence for Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again to promote the anime. This adorable comedy series centers around an elderly husband and wife who wake up one day to find their physical age restored to their 20s.
Oblivion Battery (April 9)
Oblivion Battery released a new key visual ahead of its April 9th release date. The series follows iron-armed pitcher, Haruka Kiyomine, and the shrewd catcher, Kei Kaname, who were considered to be an unrivaled and monstrous battery duo in the middle-school baseball world. When they both end up at Tokyo Municipal Kotesashi High School which is not known for baseball at all, will their baseball story begin again?
Pokémon Horizons Terastal Debut Arc (April 12)
Pokémon Horizons revealed four new cast members for their upcoming Terastal Debut Arc, which begins streaming on April 12th. The new Pokémon Horizons anime follows dual protagonists Liko and Roy, and features Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly from Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.
Black Butler: Public School Arc (April 13)
Black Butler: Public School Arc revealed the official trailer and key visual ahead of its April 13th release date. Animated by CloverWorks and streaming on Crunchyroll, the new anime was first announced in July 2023.
Whisper Me A Love Song (April 13)
The second promotional video for Whisper Me A Love Song was revealed at AnimeJapan. The yuri anime follows bubbly and energetic first-year high school student Himari who falls head over heels for her senpai Yori after hearing her band perform on the first day of school.
The Grimm Variations (April 17)
Premiering on Netflix this April 17th, The Grimm Variations highlights stories packed with horror and suspense. Based on the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, the series features animation by WIT Studio and characters created in the renowned CLAMP’s signature style.
My Hero Academia Season 7 (May 2024)
My Hero Academia returns for its highly anticipated seventh season, and the anime revealed a new trailer at AnimeJapan. This season will focus on the Star and Stripe Arc, where America’s top Pro Hero, Star and Stripe, comes to Japan to aid in the battle against All Might. However, he is ready to strike back and so is Tomura Shigaraki.
T・P BON (May 2)
Netflix confirmed the release dates for their anime adaptation of T・P BON, created by Doraemon co-creator Fujio F. Fujiko. The series follows an ordinary high school student named Bon who becomes part of a team of time-traveling agents tasked with saving people’s lives during historical events that happen across different eras and locations around the globe.
Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture (May 10)
BandaiNamco revealed the release dates, official trailer, key visual, and new cast members for the four-part Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture anime. The first part premieres on May 10th, followed by the second part on June 7th, third part on July 5th, and fourth part on August 2nd this year.
Baki Hanma VS Kengan Ashura (June 6)
The highlight of Netflix Anime’s showcase was the announcement of Baki Hanma VS Kengan Ashura, a groundbreaking collaboration between two anime series “Baki Hanma” and “Kengan Ashura” that promises to deliver epic martial arts battles and pulse-pounding excitement this June.
Rising Impact (June 22)
Premiering on Netflix this June, Rising Impact revealed new cast members at AnimeJapan. The series follows third-grader Gawain Nanaumi as he encounters the sport of golf and competes with his rivals. The anime’s first season will begin streaming on June 22nd, followed by the second season on August 6th.
Summer 2024
Oshi no Ko Season 2 (July 2024)
The highly anticipated second season of Oshi no Ko revealed its first trailer and key visual ahead of its July release date. The anime also released character visuals of the main cast in the Tokyo Blade stage play, which will be the focus of the second season.
Delico’s Nursery (July 2024)
Based on TRUMP, a Japanese stage play series by Kenichi Suemitsu, Delico’s Nursery is a gothic fantasy that takes place in a world of vampires raised as nobles, where rumors circulate that the legendary original vampire TRUMP has gained eternal life.
Dungeon People (July 2024)
Dungeon People revealed its first trailer at AnimeJapan this year. The series follows master thief Clay who, while searching for her lost father in a fantasy dungeon, meets the dungeon’s caretaker to learn its secrets. But when Clay delves into the dungeon deeper than any adventurer has ever gone, she is offered a job by the dungeon’s caretaker!
Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian (July 2024)
Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, also known as Roshidere, will premiere this July based on its newest trailer. This adorable rom-com follows Alya who always gives her seat neighbour Masachika Kuze the cold shoulder. Despite this, she sometimes blurts out a few flirtatious words in Russian, not realising that Masachika understands everything!
Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World Season 2 (July 2024)
Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World announced its second season, together with a first look at its ending theme performed by Sizuk. The series follows two enemies on opposing sides of a conflict find common ground, potentially making them traitors to their countries and war-torn lovers!
Nanare Hananare (July 2024)
A collaboration between P.A. Works and DMM.com, Nanare Hananare is an original coming-of-age story that will premiere this July. Its story depicts the various ways six high school girls — with different talent, personalities, and hobbies — find support in their lives.
Suicide Squad ISEKAI (July 2024)
Suicide Squad ISEKAI revealed a July 2024 release date at AnimeJapan. The DC anime follows Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark as they are sent into an otherworldly realm that’s connected to this world through a gate. Its opening theme “Go-Getters” is performed by popular VTuber Mori Calliope from Hololive EN.
The Elusive Samurai (July 2024)
The first trailer for The Elusive Samurai was revealed at AnimeJapan. The series follows an eight-year-old boy named Hojo Tokiyuki, the heir to the Kamakura shogunate with a talent for hide-and-seek. But his life turns upside down when his family is overthrown by Takauji Ashikage. Now, he must restore the Kamakura Shogunate to its former glory while recruiting allies and evading being killed by his enemies using his only ability to run and hide.
Senpai Is an Otokonoko (July 2024)
Senpai Is An Otokonoko unveiled a new trailer at AnimeJapan last weekend. The anime follows Saki, a high school student, who confesses her feelings to Makoto. Taken aback, Makoto reveals his secret desire to dress like a woman despite his mother’s disapproval! However, this doesn’t seem to bother Saki who is already head over heels for him.
Days With My Stepsister (July 2024)
Days With My Stepsister revealed a new trailer and key visual featuring main characters Saki Ayase and Yuta Asamura. Its story follows high schooler Yuuta who suddenly finds himself with a new stepsister Saki, the greatest beauty at school. Neither of them is sure how to act around the other at first, but the two gradually grow more comfortable living together — and so begins an unlikely love story.
Plus-Sized Elf (July 2024)
Plus-Sized Elf revealed its key visual ahead of its July 2024 release date. The anime follows Naoe-kun, a massage therapist, who finds himself saddled with a rather strange patient. This lovely lady has emerald eyes, pointy ears, and grew up in the forest. Everything about her screams “elf” except for one thing: her bodacious body.
Love Between Twins Is Indivisible (July 2024)
Kadokawa shared the first key visual for Love Between Twins Is Indivisible (Koi wa Futago de Warikirenai). This romantic comedy anime revolves around Jun, a young boy who is childhood friends with two twin sisters with different personalities. As the story continues, Jun finds himself caught up in a love triangle with these two.
Love Live Nijigasaki High School Idol Club – Final Chapter (Sept 6)
Love Live Nijigasaki revealed the key visual and trailer for their upcoming trilogy movie, Love Live Nijigasaki High School Idol Club – Final Chapter. The trilogy will tell a a story after NEXT SKY and center on an event called “School Idol GPX”, with the first movie set for a September 6th premiere in Japanese theatres.
Fall 2024
Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World Season 3 (Oct 2024)
Re:Zero returns for a third season this October, as announced in the new trailer. The new season takes place a year after the liberation of The Sanctuary, but their fragile peace comes to an end with a single letter from Anastasia, one of the candidates for the royal selection. Re:Zero also recently collaborated with Goddess of Victory: Nikke for an in-game event.
Blue Exorcist – Beyond The Snow Arc (Oct 2024)
The new season of Blue Exorcist will be arriving in October 2024, as revealed with a teaser trailer and key visual. This season will focus on the Beyond The Snow Arc, or the Yuki no Hate-hen Arc.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse Season 2 (Oct 2024)
One year after the first season premiered, The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse will receive a second season this Fall. The 2nd cour is currently streaming on Netflix worldwide.
Blue Box (Oct 2024)
Blue Box shared a new teaser trailer and an October 2024 premiere date. This romantic comedy slash sports anime follows Taiki who admires Chinatsu from afar, but he doubts that she sees him in the same way. Yet, somehow, he musters up the courage to tell her to never give up on her dreams! Does this mark the beginning of Taiki’s high school romance?
Trillion Game (Oct 2024)
Trillion Game revealed its first trailer and an October 2024 release date. The anime centers around the carefree Haru and the serious Gaku, two men who plot to earn a trillion dollars in order to afford anything they might ever want in the world.
The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup Semifinal (Oct 2024)
The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup Semifinal received its first teaser trailer and teaser visual at AnimeJapan. This anime season will focus on the Japan vs. Germany semifinal.
Demon Lord 2099 (Fall 2024)
Demon Lord 2099 revealed its first teaser trailer and a Fall 2024 release date. The anime takes place in the year 2099 where the legendary Demon Lord Veltol has his second coming five centuries in the making. But this landscape is nothing like the one he conquered all those years ago, for the fusion of magic and engineering has elevated civilization to dazzling, unprecedented heights.
Natsume’s Book of Friends Season 7 (Fall 2024)
A new season of Natsume’s Book of Friends is finally coming, and it is titled Natsume’s Book of Friends – Lacquer. Although the teaser trailer is region restricted, the key visual featuring main character Takashi Natsume is enough to get fans excited.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance (Fall 2024)
Netflix also revealed a brand new Mobile Suit Gundam animation project, titled Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance. The series will contain six episodes and stream exclusively on Netflix worldwide. Its story centers on Iria Sorari, and the mecha include the Zeon mobile suit Zaku II and the Federation mobile suit Gundam.
Coming Soon
BEASTARS Final Season (2024)
Netflix released the key visual and official teaser trailer for the final season of BEASTARS. The final season will be split into two parts with Part 1 coming in 2024, and Part 2 soon after. No exact dates have been confirmed yet.
BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War 3rd Cour (2024)
While we wait for more information about the anime this year, BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War sated fans with a special music video featuring “Reaper” performed by SennaRin. The same artist also performed the ending theme song for the 1st cour, “Saihate”.
I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time (2024)
Aniplex shared the teaser trailer for I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time (whew, that was a mouthful!) The anime follows Alina Clover who signed up to be a receptionist for the Adventurers Guild thinking it would be her ticket to the good life. Unfortunately, her dream gig turns into an overtime nightmare whenever adventurers get stuck clearing a dungeon. To save herself from paperwork, Alina takes to beating down monsters herself to solve the problem!
365 Days to the Wedding (2024)
365 Days to the Wedding announced a 2024 premiere at the AnimeJapan stage. The series follows two travel agency employees, Oohara Takura and Honjoujii Rika, who are trying to escape managing a new branch in Irkutsk… by getting married? The problem is they barely know each other at all!
Monogatari: Off Season & Monster Season (2024)
Monogatari: Off Season and Monogatari: Monster Season revealed a new trailer and key visual. A continuation of the Monogatari anime franchise, Off Season is a collection of side stories focusing on four character arcs: Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Nademonogatari, and Musubimonogatari.
Monster Season tells the story of Koyomi Araragi’s university life in six arcs: Shinobumonogatari, Yoimonogatari, Amarimonogatari, Ougimonogatari and Shinomonogatari (which is told in two novels).
Turkey (2025)
The anime movie about bowling revealed its first trailer and a 2025 premiere date. First announced in December 2022, its story is centered around the sport of bowling and it is set in the city of Chikuma in Nagano Prefecture.
I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Season 2 (2025)
Another mouthful of an anime title, I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years announced the arrival of its second season in 2025. The series is a self-proclaimed “at-home comedy” about a powerful girl who doesn’t work too hard. After dying of overwork in the real world, she reincarnates as an immortal witch who spent 300 years enjoying a relaxing life — until her status as a Level 99 witch started to attract attention!
Make A Girl (TBA)
Make A Girl unveiled two new cast members at AnimeJapan. Sora Amamiya will voice Akane Komura, while Toshiki Masuda will voice Kunihito Obayashi. The anime movie previously revealed a trailer, which follows the story of Akira Mizutame who scientifically creates an artificial girlfriend named No. 0.
Tales of Wedding Rings Season 2 (TBA)
Tales of Wedding Rings announced a second season, alongside the casting of Miyu Tomita who will voice Morion Ravry Nokanatika. The series follows Sato who crashes his best friend’s wedding in another world, only to end up as the groom when she suddenly kisses him!
