‘Arcane’ Creators Tease Season 2, Answer Fan Questions in Reddit AMA

On November 8, Arcane co-creators Christian “Praeco” Linke and Alex “IdleSkribbles” Yee celebrated the show’s first anniversary with an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit, where they answered plenty of questions from fans and even dropped hints for the series’ future.

In case you missed it, here’s a quick summary of what went down. Spoiler warning for Season 1 of Arcane!

Season 2 Teasers

With Season 1 of Arcane having left off on an explosive cliffhanger, fans were eager to learn more about its upcoming second season. Here’s what the creators had to say:

  • Silco and Vander will return in Season 2 and beyond. While both characters were sadly killed off in Season 1, it seems like we’ll be seeing more flashbacks of the two characters in their younger years. Linke also hinted at a possible spinoff featuring the two, saying they have a “story we’d like to tell”.
  • Caitlyn and Vi shippers will have mixed feelings on the next season. Yee mentions a “part they might like, and (a) part they’re probably gonna hate”.
  • What can fans expect for Viktor in Season 2?Everything”, according to Linke.
  • More League of Legends champions are coming to Arcane. According to series writer Amanda Overton, Orianna, Warwick and Janna may make an appearance.
  • The creators would love to explore other regions in Runeterra, but it won’t be happening anytime soon. Linke felt that the team needs to earn their way into a larger world view first, while Yee shared that he’s always been a fan of Noxus, Ionia, and the Freljord.

Behind-the-Scenes Details

The team also had the opportunity to share some of their experiences from bringing the show to life, from their influences to their favourite scenes, moments, and more.

  • Arcane was greatly inspired by anime. Specifically, Hellsing, Berserk, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Gungrave.
  • Alex Yee’s personal favourite scenes are: In no particular order, the dinner scene in Episode 9, the bridge fight in Episode 7, and Jinx’s “Chuck/Thieram” scene in Episode 6.
  • The Arcane team had a difficult time sourcing music for Season 1. Many artists turned them down as they were an unproven studio, while others were simply not interested in joining an animated series.
  • A number of scenes were cut from Arcane due to a lack of time and budget. This includes a scene where a young Ekko would try to save Powder from Silco at the end of Episode 3.
  • The creators did not expect for Silco to become a fan favourite. They even worried that he had too much screen time during development.

Miscellaneous Questions

  • More Arcane merch is in the works! Linke mentions being disappointed by the limited amount of merchandise that was released alongside Season 1, and hopes to correct that in the future. An artbook of the series is also being considered.
  • The team hid many Easter eggs in the series that fans have not yet discovered. Linke plans to check in on the fandom’s progress in the next few years, just to see if there are any hidden secrets left.
  • Will we ever see Vi’s abs? Maybe…
