That headline is not a joke.
Here is some context: By now you should have already seen the absolutely insane trailer for the new Fast & Furious spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw, starring Dwayne “The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their roles from the F&F series, Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, respectively.
While the standalone film will look to be a hit with many, this means that there is now a gap in the main cast for a large, muscular and badass character.
That’s where John Cena comes in. A couple of days ago, Vin Diesel, star of the F&F movies, posted a short video on his Instagram. In it, he monologues about deceased co-star Paul Walker, referring to him as “Pablo”, and mentions about how he sends someone special to the cast “once in a blue moon”. He then pans the camera over, and who else but John Cena appears, with his signature “you can’t see me” pose and a wink to top it all off.
We don’t know the extent of Cena’s involvement in the film, or who he’ll even be playing as. He could be a hero, a villain, or just like with Hobbs, a foe who inevitably comes around to the side of the crew.
Cena, surprisingly, is known as quite a petrolhead, even having his own YouTube channel called “Auto Geek”, where he hoons about in rare and expensive cars. He’s also known as a prolific actor, starring in action movies such as The Marine and last year’s Bumblebee.
We look forward to seeing (or not seeing) Mr. Cena on the silver screen again.
