It was originally revealed on the April of 2018 that Square Enix would be releasing a four-episode DLC set called ‘The Dawn of The Future’ featuring Ardyn, Luna, Noctis and Aranea. The concept centers around an alternate grand finale where our heroes challenge their fates for the ideal future they had wanted.

But, on the 8th of November, 75% of the content were scrapped with only Episode Ardyn proceeding with production.

Episode Ardyn takes place in the city of Insomnia, approximately 30 years prior to the events of the main game where he begins his revenge on the royal family and in the midst of all this, we’ll see him come to a revelation regarding his own destiny.

The episode is said to be a direct depiction of the story that couldn’t be told within the main game. The producers want to showcase Ardyn as he becomes enraged, or feels hatred and sorrow as well as point out his human qualities.

There will be wire action features, similar to the one found in Episode Ignis, that will enable players to essentially fly around ‘Shinjuku’ – the city Insomnia was modeled after.

In addition to that, there will be a short animated piece that will act as the prologue to Episode Ardyn. It is currently in production and will be released before the main game. It is to provide context as to why Ardyn became wild for revenge.

The game is scheduled to be released on March 2019 with the price yet to be confirmed.

At the same time, Hajime Tabata has announced his resignation from Luminous Production and Square Enix. Here is the official statement shared during the Final Fantasy XV Special Second Anniversary Program.

To Everyone Watching the Program,

Hello, this is Tabata.

It’s almost going to be 2 whole years since the release of FFXV. I honestly believe the reason we were able to get this far is because of all you loyal fans. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Today, I have a personal announcement to make to all of you. I, Hajime Tabata, will be resigning from Luminous Productions and the Square Enix Group as of October 31, 2018. I was able to gain so much experience with my time at Square Enix. Every title I was able to be a part of means a lot to me. However, FFXV stood out from that group as it was a special project for me which I went all-in.

Therefore, I decided to take this opportunity to officially announce my departure from FFXV to all the fans who have supported the title across the globe. In regards to my next endeavors and near future, I have a project that I truly wish to solidify as my next challenge after FFXV. For that reason, I have decided to leave my current position and start my own business in order to achieve my goal.

As production of Episode Ardyn continues and Luminous Productions works on new projects, I felt that it was time for me to hand over the torch to the next generation group of talented and trustworthy colleagues and believe that they will create something amazing.

From this day on, I will cheer on and support Square Enix and Luminous Productions together with all you fans. I would like to thank everyone who continue to support FFXV and those who have also supported myself personally.

During the program, it was also announced that there would be a new update on FINAL FANTASY XV MULTIPLAYER: COMRADES and a free update to all FINAL FANTASY XV players for a new in-game quest titled “Adventurer from Another World.”

The new quest is in collaboration with FINAL FANTASY XIV, and upon completion of quest, players will receive special edition FINAL FANTASY XIV-themed costumes as a reward.

Do you think Episode Ardyn would be the saving grace FINAL FANTASY XV needs, or do you think this is all just a scheme for them to milk more money out of the franchise before it truly dies down?
