Looks like Tom Cruise is flying with a new co-pilot.
Sources have reported that “Only the Brave” star Miles Teller has been cast to play the son of Goose and Maverick’s new protege in the Paramount and Skydance production “Top Gun: Maverick”, the sequel to the 1986 classic, and the sole reason we thought being a fighter pilot was cool. In the original movie, Goose, played by Anthony Edwards, was Maverick’s co-pilot.
The film will be directed by Joe Kosinski, whose track record include “Oblivion” as well as “TRON: Legacy”, and features a cast that includes Tom Cruise, alongside Val Kilmer, who reprises his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. Jerry Bruckheimer will produce the film alongside Cruise and Skydance CEO David Ellison.
Teller himself is well known for “Only the Brave”, but also featured in one of the worst superhero movies released within the last decade, “Fantastic Four”. He has come into his own lately however, and hopefully we’ll see more gold shining beneath the surface with this movie.
The movie is set in a world of drone fighting and fifth generation fighters, and will explore the end of the dogfighting era. “Top Gun: Maverick” is slated for a June 12, 2019 release. Time to get back on the highway to the danger zone.
