The fantasy shonen manga series The Ancient Magus’ Bride (魔法使いの嫁 Mahō Tsukai no Yome) by Kore Yamazaki is slated to have an anime adaptation to premiere on October 7, 2017. A 3-part prequel anime was released starting from September 2016 and was each bundled with the sixth, seventh and eighth volumes of the manga.
It was exciting to discover this gem after coming across its trailer on social media. The animation looks great and the premise seems promising enough to hook us in at one go. The anime is produced by Wit Studio which was also responsible for the prequels and is directed by Norihiro Naganuma.
Set in a world of magic and fae (the title kind of gives it away), The Ancient Magus’ Bride follows the story of young Chise Hatori, who was “purchased” by the mysterious Elias Ainsworth for five million pounds from a black market auction house to become his apprentice and future bride.
With voices by Atsumi Tanezaki (Lisa Mishima from Terror in Resonance) as main heroine Chise, Ryota Takeuchi (Wakatoshi Ushijima from Haikyuu!!) as Elias and the main opening theme song by JUNNA (the singing voice of Walküre’s Mikumo from Macross Delta), The Ancient Magus’ Bride is a strong contender to look out for in this upcoming anime season.
