On the 3rd of September 2022, Malaysia launched its first “THE ODEX FILM FESTIVAL (TOFF)” event. A collaborative event between Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), Paradigm Mall Petaling Jaya, GSC Movies, Odex Private Limited and Comic Fiesta, TOFF is a treat for local anime fans as the festival is fully dedicated to anime movies.
Featuring titles such as One Piece Film Red, Shin Ultraman, The Quintessential Quintuplets The Movie and Isekai Quartet The Movie: Another World, the festival is set to run from the 3rd to the 11th of September, with all kinds of fun activities for fans to enjoy.
On the first day of the festival, we had the opportunity to attend a fan screening of one of the featured films, which happened to be One Piece Film Red. The movie centers around a new character named Uta, who is the daughter of Shanks, one of the Four Emperors of the New World. As one of the world’s most famous singers, the film sees her bringing about a new era as she wows the world with her songs.
The screening was made extra-special with a guest appearance from One Piece Film Red producer Shinji Shimizu, who came all the way from Japan to experience the screening. Known for producing works such as Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection “F”, and Yes! Precure 5, Shimizu could be seen giving out autographs and taking photos with fans throughout the event.
The event also featured a Cosplay Contest, where many different cosplayers rocked their colourful costumes in front of a panel of judges. At the end of the day, the first place went to Ayam who cosplayed as Tengu from Miracle Nikki. Aside from the stage activities, fans could also shop at the booths, which featured everything from official merchandise to doujin artworks, and even cosplay merchandise.
As huge One Piece fans ourselves, some of our favourite event highlights were the life-sized One Piece Film Red character standees that fans could take pictures with! Besides that, fans could also check out standees from Shin Ultraman and The Quintessential Quintuplets The Movie.
In conclusion, if you’re an anime fan who’s looking for an extra-special movie viewing experience, be sure to check out GSC’s limited preview screenings for One Piece Film Red, Shin Ultraman, The Quintessential Quintuplets The Movie and Isekai Quartet The Movie: Another World. Not only will you be able to watch the movie before everyone else, but you’ll be able get your hands on some exclusive merchandise as well.
You also won’t want to miss out on TOFF’s second weekend celebration this 10 and 11 September, which will feature more fun activities and special guest appearances! Don’t miss this chance to take memorable pictures and hang out with your fellow ACG fans.
If you can’t make it to the event, don’t fret as One Piece Film Red will be made available for the general public from the 22nd of September onwards. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the movies, and we’re sure you will too!
