Oreco Tachibana’s popular manga series Firefly Wedding is officially getting an anime adaptation, airing this October. The anime is set to be produced by david production, the studio behind JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Cells at Work.
Takahiro Kamei, the director behind the Urusei Yatsura remake and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, will serve as the series’ director, with character designs from Yukiko Aikei, known for her work on Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop and Your Lie in April.
Set in Meiji-era Japan, Firefly Wedding tells the story of an unlikely relationship between Satoko Kirigaya, a noblewoman who dreams of marrying into a prestigious family; and Shinpei Goto, an assassin who has targeted Satoko. In order to save her life, Satoko proposes to marry Shinpei.
The manga series was first published on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE platform in January 2023, where it quickly gained critical and commercial acclaim, ranking first in Japan’s “Nationwide Bookstore Staff Recommended Comics” list for 2024, and third in the “Manga Fans Want to See Animated Ranking” list of 2025.
