‘Love In Tiny Spaces’ Is A Quickie But A Goodie — Game Review

A bite sized quickie of a game, find your girlfriend and avoid her parents and neighbours in this humorous tongue-in-cheek top-down stealth game. Navigate the corridors of the big city – then change it up using the powers of the Love Transport Authority (LTA), with love as your guide.

Developed by: BattleBrew Productions

Played on: Steam

Length: 1 hours

From cooking in the kitchen to baking in the bedroom, BattleBrew Productions are back at it again with a little game called Love In Tiny Spaces. In this one-hour experience, you play as a young romantic trying to spend more time with their girlfriend, even if they have to sneak past grandparents and dodge nosy neighbours to get there.

The game loosely follows the timeline of their relationship, from night-time rendezvous in her family home to staycations at a fancy hotel in the city. You might notice familiar landmarks across Singapore weaved into its level design, including HDB flats and Marina Bay Sands, but the cultural infusion in this game goes beyond a few cameos.

For anyone in Southeast Asia who’s ever had to sneak around their parents, or accidentally bumped into gossiping neighbours on a date, everything about this game will be painfully and hilariously relatable. Especially if you toggle the dialogue to Singaporean English, the familiar characters and references really jump off the screen.

The top-down stealth-puzzle gameplay is immediately charming, featuring short levels and a unique mechanic that bends space and time. While stealth games typically reward you for your patience, Love In Tiny Spaces encourages quick problem-solving as the clock starts ticking down the moment the level begins. If you don’t reach your girlfriend before the time runs out, she might get bored waiting for you!

The addition of the Love Transport Authority (LTA) introduces a fun level of challenge to the game, allowing you to fold and flip the map to unlock new pathways; a mechanic that might be familiar to you if you’ve ever played Paper Trail. If you ever get stuck on a level, the game also gives you the option to skip to the next level right away. Although if you’re anything like me, that might just trigger your competitive side even further.

Verdict: Love In A Bite-Sized Package

From the developers of Cuisineer, Love In Tiny Spaces is a hilarious and relatable story about sneaking around nosy relatives to spend more time with your girlfriend. Despite its one-hour playtime, the game manages to pack in plenty of stealth-based puzzles, fun characters, and an adorable story about love blossoming in the big city.
