During Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary presentation, the studio announced Death Stranding: Mosquito, an animated film made in collaboration with Line Mileage. Directed by ABC Animation’s Hiroshi Miyamoto (Eiga Precure Dream Stars!) and written by Aaron Guzikowski (Raised by Wolves), the film will feature an original story set within the Death Stranding universe.
Director Miyamoto commented on the film’s unique art style during the presentation: “We were talking about ideas, and I thought it was great because I grew up watching Japanese animation, but I also wanted to do something different than the normal Japanese animation, because the original game titles are very photorealistic.”
He also shared a few details regarding the film’s plot, confirming that the protagonist is not Sam Porter Bridges from the main games, but an original character who has the ability to “suck something really important”, which gave rise to the film’s working title of Death Stranding: Mosquito. Further details, such as its voice cast and release date, were not shared at the time of writing.
The first Death Stranding game was originally released in 2019, and has since captivated over 20 million players worldwide with its blend of technical innovation and emotional performances, delivered by celebrities such as Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, and Guillermo Del Toro. A sequel, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, was released on June 26 of this year.
