‘(The Lingering) Graveyard Visit’ Is An Indonesian Horror Story Told Through A Child’s Eyes

Indonesian-based Storytale has released the second installment for (The Lingering) series, an episodic horror series inspired by true events and urban legends in Indonesia. (The Lingering) Graveyard Visit is a narrative-driven walking sim that follows Eki, an 11-year-old boy visiting his late father’s grave with his mother.

There, he meets Tomy, a local boy who tells him the village’s dark secret, a wealth-seeking ritual said to involve sacrificing a child. Haunted by doubt, Eki begins to suspect that his mother has hidden intentions with this visit, knowing that she has been struggling financially since his father’s death.

A love letter to the retro gaming era, (The Lingering) series brings to life the settings, myths, and rituals from real Indonesian folklore through the medium of eerie pixel renderings. Every episode is inspired by real submissions from the community, featuring multiple endings depending on your choices throughout the game.

The first installment, (The Lingering) Last Customer, was released earlier this March and follows a young woman who books a late-night massage that quickly turns into a nightmare. The second installment recently launched in June.

Prior to this, Storytale made its mark with the release of Pamali: Indonesian Folklore Horror in 2018, a title that grew to become one of Indonesia’s most recognized horror IPs. The studio is currently working on Pamali: The Vengeful Mother, a multiplayer online co-op that expands on the original Pamali universe.
