Square Enix officially unveiled Octopath Traveler 0, a prequel to the acclaimed Octopath Traveler, during today’s Nintendo Direct. Developed by Square Enix’s internal studio Team Asano, the HD-2D turn-based RPG is set to release globally on December 4, 2025.
The game will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, with additional support for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Pre-orders for most platforms are now live.
Set in the world of Orsterra, Octopath Traveler 0 will build upon the story of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, adding new story content and reinterpreted story beats. The game will bring back core Octopath Traveler gameplay elements such as the iconic HD-2D visual style, the Break and Boost battle system, and versatile Path Actions.
Players can now pre-order three different editions of the game: a Standard Edition; a Digital Deluxe Edition that includes in-game travel provisions, digital art book, and action skill enhancements; and a Collector’s Edition that comes with physical collector’s goods and a digital Deluxe upgrade. All pre-orders will include a Travel Provisions Pack, which includes healing and revival items, and the Icewind Mastery Action Skill.

A Save Data Bonus Campaign will also add to the excitement. Players with save or purchase data from select Square Enix titles (Octopath Traveler, Octopath Traveler II, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake) can unlock bonus content in Octopath Traveler 0.
Octopath Traveler 0 will be released on December 4, 2025. More information can be found on Square Enix’s official blog.
