In what might be the fastest turnaround from published videogame to movie announcement in recent years, Hazelight Studios’ Split Fiction is set to be adapted into a feature film, directed by Jon M. Chu (Wicked) and written by Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool & Wolverine).
The story was originally reported by Variety, who also learned that Sydney Sweeney is set to star, though her role has yet to be confirmed. Sweeney will also have an executive producer credit on the film.
Split Fiction is a co-op game where both players take on the role of Mio and Zoe, two aspiring writers being offered a publishing deal by Rader Publishing. To advance this promised publishing deal to its next stage, they are required to test out an experimental simulation device.
Through some unexpected circumstances, they become trapped in the device, forcing them to go through simulations of each other’s written work in order to escape and uncover the conspiracy behind Rader Publishing and its mysterious machine.
The game was inititally released in March, where it quickly became a hit with players, selling more than two million copies in the first week following its launch. It is currently available on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release scheduled for later this year.
