In a recent Mario Kart World Direct, Nintendo revealed more details for Mario Kart World, the most expansive entry in the franchise to date, launching June 5 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. A console bundle including the game will also be available at launch.
The game introduces an interconnected open world for the first time in series history, letting players race across diverse landscapes like cities, deserts, oceans, and more, complete with dynamic weather and a day/night cycle.
Traditional modes return alongside major new features like Knockout Tour, a survival-style race across the world, and Free Roam, which offers a relaxed, mission-based exploration mode.
Other highlights include:
- 24-player races, the most ever in the series
- New items like the Coin Shell, Ice Flower, and Kamek’s magic
- New characters, including Goomba, Spike, and even Cow
- Battle Mode returns with updated versions of Balloon Battle and Coin Runners
- New techniques, including Charge Jump, Wall-Riding, and a Rewind feature
- Expanded multiplayer, with up to 8 players via local wireless, 4-player split screen, and full online support
- GameChat in-game voice chat (no subscription needed until March 31, 2026)
- CameraPlay, allowing players to show their faces in-game using the Switch 2 Camera
Courses include all-new tracks like Crown City and Boo Cinema, alongside reimagined classics. Fans can also customize races in VS Mode, challenge global ghosts in Time Trials, or grab a boost (and an outfit) from the new Dash Food Drive-Thrus.
