Targem Games’ latest project, The Way of the Tray, is waiter simulator game set to immerse players in a world inspired by Japanese culture. The game promises a fun and engaging experience where players will master the art of serving dishes and earn the trust of mythical yokai patrons.
In The Way of the Tray, players step into the shoes of a waiter in a fantastical restaurant steeped in Japanese folklore. The game draws inspiration from the meticulous presentation and hospitality of “omotenashi” found in Japanese cuisine. As the waiter, players will interact with a variety of yokai, including demons, kappa, and tsuchigumo, catering to their orders of traditional Japanese fare like onigiri, sushi, and ramen.
However, the life of a waiter in this mystical establishment won’t be a walk in the park. Players will face challenging tasks, including the precarious balancing of multiple trays laden with food and drinks. Mistakes could lead to the wrath of the demanding Chief, so players must hone their skills and manage their time efficiently to serve guests before they become impatient.
The game’s core mechanic revolves around a quirky balancing act. Players must skillfully use a tray to catch falling dishes and beverages, stacking them without any mishaps. The ability to carry numerous items at once is key to becoming an efficient waiter. Players will need to perfect their technique, as dropped items will result in a lost tip.
