Want to celebrate Valentine’s Day somewhere special this year? We got your back! Our team scoured the internet and found five unique and insta-worthy cafes — with a little hint of geeky fun — that will definitely make your Valentine’s date extra memorable.
If you decide to drop by for a visit, just make sure to let them know we sent you!
1. Opera Cafe & Lounge, Starhill Gallery
Serving up a modernised classical fusion of Western and Middle Eastern cuisine, Opera Cafe & Lounge claims to be “the most instagrammable cafe in Kuala Lumpur” and we can see why. Its sophisticated yet dainty interior design is like stepping into a pink wonderland, but its highlight is definitely the Opera Love Drink, a Beauty and the Beast inspired beverage served in a heart-shaped glass.
2. Fujiwara Tofu Shop Malaysia, USJ 1
Inspired by its namesake tofu shop from the Initial D anime and manga, Fujiwara Tofu Shop Malaysia is a Japanese restaurant that brings you into the world of Takumi Fujiwara. Besides its iconic exterior design, the interior of the cafe features a life-sized replica of Takumi Fujiwara’s car, a Toyota AE86, as well as Initial D posters and merchandise. Although if you decide to visit this cafe, you might have to postpone your Valentine’s Day date since it is only open from Friday to Sunday!
3. Monster A Garden Cafe, Sunway & Kuala Lumpur
For the cat-loving couples, Monster A Garden Cafe is a calm and aesthetic cafe where arts, cats, and plants come together in one laid-back ecosystem. It’s the perfect place for quiet conversations, sharing sweet treats, or just chilling with cats. There are two branches you can visit based on your convenience, one in Sunway and one in Kuala Lumpur.
4. GACHAKOHI, Damansara Utama
Have you ever had trouble deciding what to drink? GACHAKOHI is a contemporary cafe inspiared by Japanese gachapons, where every beverage order is unique. All you have to do is select a drink category ranging from coffee to soda, and the gachapon machine decides what drink you’ll get. Not only that, the cafe serves tea sets and pastries baked fresh everyday by their in-house pâtissier.
5. No Nonsense Coffee, Sunway Pyramid
Located inside the Atmos flagship store in Sunway Pyramid, No Nonsense Coffee combines otaku culture with Japanese minimalism for a truly aesthetic experience. There is plenty of limited edition merchandise and collectibles on display at the cafe, and it’s said that they serve up a mean cup of coffee too!
