Last month, Japan’s biggest girl group AKB48 announced that they would be launching a new sister group in Malaysia named KLP48. This marks the fifth Southeast Asian sister group following Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand.
KLP48 is currently recruiting first generation members for its debut in August 2024. Applications are open from 19th February to 31st March 2024, and are limited to one per person. Successful applicants will undergo three rounds of screening and a final examination and training camp in Kuala Lumpur.
Not everyone can qualify as a member either! KLP48 is looking for females between 13 and 23 years old as of March 1st, 2024. Applicants also cannot be affiliated with or be under contract with other production companies at the time of application.

Applications are now open on the KLP48 official website from now until 31st March 2024, 11:59PM (GMT+8). Minors are required to have consent from a parent or guardian before registering.
