MDEC & Quurk Equip Youth With Coding Skills Through ‘Pastopia’ Game

Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Quurk are excited to announce their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) dedicated to equipping Malaysian youths with essential coding skills. The collaboration aims to make coding a fundamental skill among young learners, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and technological literacy via Quurk’s pioneering game, Pastopia.

MDEC and Quurk are embarking on an extraordinary journey toward a novel pedagogical science — the fusion of education and gaming. Leveraging Quurk’s proprietary content abstraction framework, they have introduced a systematic approach and design within Pastopia that transforms educational content and objectives into captivating gameplay. In Pastopia, actions within the game yield specific, traceable, and tangible learning outcomes.

This innovative framework enables Pastopia to address the hurdles and complexities in learning coding. It serves as a conduit that eliminates the barriers that have hindered the pursuit of coding knowledge among youths and young adults. Learners will be empowered to explore their interests and unleash their creativity, fostering an environment of growth and accomplishment compared to conventional learning.

In addition to their core partnership goals, MDEC and Quurk will explore further opportunities within the technology industry network, which focuses on extracurricular integration, teacher training, outreach and awareness, learning and resources, and community engagement.

The joint endeavors between MDEC and Quurk hold the promise of nurturing a new generation of tech-savvy leaders, propelling Malaysia to become the digital hub of ASEAN. Quurk will showcase the game at the Malaysia Digital Content Festival from 29 September to 1 October 2023.

Meanwhile, MDEC will be launching the Malaysia Digital Expo 2023 (MDX 2023) in September, a six-week-long event that celebrates Malaysia’s digital economy and amplifies all tech events with the participation of international and local speakers and panelists from reputable organisations, which will take place across Malaysia.
