The trailer for the Aladdin live-action movie recently dropped on YouTube, giving us a proper look at the characters and their personalities. You’ve probably already seen it by now, but if you haven’t, hold off on reading this article and go watch it first.
It’s short but it’s given us a good glimpse into what the movie will end up looking like. The first thing you’ll notice of course, is good ol’ Will Smith playing the role of Genie this time around. It all looks a little “Uncanny Valley”, and it’s not just because he’s blue.
The trailer starts off with the big bad villain of the movie, Jafar sending our titular hero into a cave to find the magic lamp containing a genie. Nothing new here; if you’ve watched Aladdin before, know that the plot is pretty much exactly as it is. Everything does look rather nice, if a little heavy on the CGI, though that’s to be expected in creating an entire fictional world in a live-action film.
The trailer has sparked a rather divisive discussion, with the YouTube video currently sitting at 26 thousand likes, and 28 thousand dislikes. Only time will tell if the movie ends up being a hit.
Aladdin drops on May 14, starring Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott.
