The yearly drought for gaming has come as we wait for the big releases to come out later this year. But it’s not absolutely barren this 3rd quarter of the year as there are a few exciting releases to come before OUR wallets become barren for the end of the year. So, here’s our picks of the 10 Most Anticipated Games of July to September in no particular order!
1. Octopath Traveler
Release Date: 13th July 2018
Developers: Square Enix & Acquire
Platform: Nintendo Switch
To start off, we will see the release of a new turn-based J-RPG by non-other than Square Enix coming really soon. Octopath Traveler seems to be taking the classic genre back to its roots, with cutesy 8-bit 2D characters on a beautifully 3D rendered world; mixing the old with the new. The battle system looks very similar to Final Fantasy VI and its predecessors. Very excited to see how the game performs, now that the release date is just around the corner!
2. Overcooked 2
Release Date: 7th August 2018
Developers: Team 17 Digital Ltd
Platform: Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & Xbox One
Team 17 comes back again with its ridiculously hectic, yet fun-as-hell cooking game. From the gameplay shown, there are a bunch of new additions in this new installment, including the ability to throw ingredients is now available. This is a welcome addition as it would ease passing ingredients greatly, but of course there is the impending grief that friends would purposely throw the ingredients out-of-bounds to have a laugh or to break friendships.
3. Ōkami HD
Release Date: 9th August 2018
Developer: Clover Studio
Platform: Nintendo Switch
The critically acclaimed Ōkami has come back with a HD remaster for the Nintendo Switch. There isn’t much to say about this gorgeous game about a Japanese mythical god that hasn’t been said already. If you haven’t played Ōkami before, the Switch will be an amazing platform to experience the game’s beautiful world.
4. The Walking Dead Final Season Ep 1
Release Date: 14th August 2018
Developer: Telltale Games
Platform: Windows, PlayStation4 & Xbox One
The beginning of the climatic end of Telltale’s The Walking Dead is coming soon. Most likely following Clementine, we might see an end to her story. As with every season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, it is also highly likely that we would see recurring characters from the previous seasons or from the TV series. No doubt it would be a heart-string-tugging experience with Telltale’s great story telling ability.
5. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
Release Date: 28th August 2018
Developer: Capcom
Platform: Nintendo Switch
One of the most action-oriented and customizable Monster Hunter is now coming to the Nintendo Switch. Finally, with a Monster Hunter game on the Switch, the excuses for not buying a Switch are thinning out with so many great games continuously coming out.
6. Spider-Man
Release Date: 7th September 2018
Developer: Insomniac Gaming
Platform: PlayStation 4
One of PlayStation 4’s highly anticipated exclusives is kicking off the month of September strong; a genuinely fun looking Spider-Man with an open world and absolutely cool-looking gameplay. From the gameplay shown, it’s quite reminiscent to the Batman: Arkham series but so much smoother and looks like a whole lot of fun to beat up goons and criminals. Interested to see how the game’s story will be like, now that we know most of Spider-Man’s main villains are going to be in the game.
7. Shadow of The Tomb Raider
Release Date: 14th September 2018
Developer: Eidos Montréal
Platform: Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Lara Croft is back, now more brutal than ever. It’s without a doubt that this game would be as fun as their previous installments. Now implementing a more in-depth stealth mechanic that lets you use the jungle’s terrain to your ultimate advantage. From the trailers shown, we can see the story is taking more of a brutal twist, along with the questioning of Lara’s moral standpoint.
8. Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Release Date: 21st September 2018
Developer: Toys for Bob
Platform: PlayStation 4 & Xbox One
Besides Crash Bandicoot, we have another classic 3D platformer game that is coming back with a HD remaster. Relive the nostalgic levels from all three Spyro games. If you haven’t played this cult classic, now is the time to sink in your hours into this amazing game.
9. Life is Strange 2 Ep 1
Release Date: 27th September 2018
Developer: Dontnod Entertainment
Platform: Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Telltale’s indirect competitor for best storytelling developer; Dontnod Entertainment has come up with a sequel to Life is Strange. However, it will not have anything to do with Max Caulfield but with new characters and a whole new location. So far, the only thing we know is that the recently released demo, ‘The Awesome Adventure of Captain Spirit’ will tie into the story of the new sequel. No doubt it will be an amazing story with a high chance of tears falling from our faces.
10. Code Vein
Release Date: 28th September 2018
Developer: Bandai Namco Studios
Platform: Windows, PlayStation 4 & Xbox One
The game to end the 3rd quarter of the year is essentially anime Dark Souls. It is a whole lot cooler than it sounds, with it having its own spin on the Souls series formula of REALLY difficult RPG gameplay. From what we know, the game’s setting will be at a post-apocalyptic dystopia with vampiric themes and supernatural abilities. Really excited to see what Bandai Namco will do for this genre of gaming.
And that’s our list! We hope this gave you the information you need to survive the yearly drought of gaming. Tell us in the comments below on what games you’re most excited for!
