Dear The Magic Rain Team,
I’m in love with how the girls cosplay this days but… try not to go into the mainstream so much and try not to cosplay characters that show too much skin. You will just be inviting perverts and rapists.
Sincerely,
Opinionist
Dear Opinionist,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Coser Confess platform. I hope you don’t mind, but I’d like to share my thoughts on your sharing.
On one hand, yes, it may be boring for others to see cosplayers cosplay “mainstream” anime because we see it very often; so often to the point it may become boring to us. However, I feel that not all cosplayers cosplay mainstream animes just because it’s popular. Sometimes, it so happens that these individuals do like the anime for what it is, and not because it’s popular at the moment. Therefore, dear cosplayers, if you’re happy with what you’re cosplaying and you love your character, carry on with your cosplay and enjoy life.
About not showing too much skin, I somewhat agree with you although I do believe it should go both ways. For girls who are cosplaying, if you’re showing skin, only show it when you are comfortable and only do it for the right reasons (e.g. showing your cleavage because you just want to, or for character accuracy, not because you want to attract a man’s attention).
But just to be clear, I’m not encouraging you to show more skin nor am I rejecting the fact that in no circumstance does an outfit signify a woman’s consent to sexual activity nor does it signify an invitation. To all the men out there, if a woman is wearing less layers of clothing or even none, in no circumstance are we asking to get raped. Also, men are not animals and are capable of restraining themselves from raping a women etc. It’s all about one’s upbringing and culture that influences how one sees a woman.
However, at this point of time, where we have not yet fully reached a mutual understanding that “we women are not asking for it”. Well, girls and especially cosplayers, do take precautions. If you’re planning to go to an event or a shoot with very exposing clothes, be sure to bring a friend along with you. There’s no denying that the world is a dangerous place.
Sincerely,
Ms. Scrumptious
