Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece anime and manga will be going on hiatus simultaneously, as announced last Sunday. The 37-minute “One Piece News #1” livestream confirmed that the anime adaptation will resume its ongoing Egghead arc next April 2025, while the manga will be taking a break from Weekly Shounen Jump issues 30 to 33.
However, fans of the anime can look forward to other One Piece content starting this Sunday. The previously announced One Piece Fan Letter special will air on October 20th, followed by a remastered version of the Fish-Man Island Saga starting October 27th and airing weekly.
One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga will feature reshot scenes with retouched art, detailing, colour shading, lighting, special effects, and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. It will also be condensed from 51 episodes into 21 episodes with better pacing. This will also be considered a separate initiative from the previously announced WIT Studio remake.
The remastered special will also feature a new version of the “We Go!” opening theme song performed by the “Straw Hat Pirates”. The ending song will be performed by Japanese boy band BE:FIRST.
Also arriving in 2025 is One Piece Base, a smartphone app that will contain the One Piece manga and other content from the entire franchise. Fans who scan bar codes from select One Piece merchandise will receive points which can be used to unlock chapters to read. The app also contains a “portrait maker” that will turn pictures of fans into art in Oda’s style. One Piece Base launches in Japan this Sunday, with a global release coming in 2025.
